falling in love

I have to admit I am in love. I am just enamored with playing with these layered images.

What started as an assignment has turned into a whole series using artworks from my past, images from the present, and collages that represent my visions for the future.

In these works, time collapses. Past, present, and future meld.

For example, here we see a bronze figure, made back in my early art school days at Ohlone Community College circa 2002ish, layered with a recently made collage, a vision spell, a prayer for rewilding.

The figure bound up in her own entrapments, surrounded by these little flashes of freedom.

I have to say working in this way, revisiting old works long ago dismissed, giving these handmade 3 dimensional objects new life in this digital realm, is wildly satisfying.

I took a bunch of raw images before I left and this play has been my creative outlet these last few weeks. I love the portability. I love the immediacy. And while I will always love the tactile nature of creating a physical thing with my hands, I love the sustainability of creating digital images. No qualms about materials and waste and extraction.

I love revisiting past versions of myself as my current self, while also holding visions for my future self.

I love how time collapses. Both how I enter a flow state and can play with these for hours. And how 20 years of creation comes together in a moment. How nothing is wasted. All the works that came before - physical and otherwise - are being composted and creating a rich and fertile ground.
